We’re thrilled to share that Jenny Davidson, Executive Director and Founder of AcademySTAY, was recently interviewed by Doug Thomas for Sacramento area Audacy radio stations, including 96.9 The Eagle, 98 Rock, and 106.5 The End.
During this inspiring conversation, Jenny shared the heartfelt story behind AcademySTAY, the challenges faced by aged-out foster youth, and the incredible work being done to empower these young adults to achieve their dreams.
Highlights from the Interview
Jenny discussed how her personal journey, including her time working at CPS and a deeply personal loss, inspired her to create AcademySTAY. Here’s a glimpse of what she shared during the interview:
The Mission: AcademySTAY’s goal is to provide housing, mentorship, life skills, and community for foster youth aged 18–24 who want to pursue college or trade school. By addressing housing insecurity and fostering a sense of belonging, AcademySTAY helps youth overcome barriers and achieve their educational goals.
Life Skills and Community: Jenny shared touching stories of how students are learning essential skills, from cooking their first meals to managing budgets. These small victories are life-changing and provide students with the tools they need to succeed.
The Unique Approach: Unlike many programs, AcademySTAY focuses on education as the pathway to independence, ensuring students don’t just survive but thrive with a sustainable future.
Call to Action
With over 20 available units, Jenny emphasized the need to spread the word about AcademySTAY and the importance of community support through volunteering, donating, and engaging with their programs.
